Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio and Home Outside are hosting a Pin-to-Win “Creating Home Outside” contest, with a chance to win a home landscape design makeover!
“Creating Home Outside”
Contest Rules
Follow these steps to participate in the contest:
- Join Pinterest, if you haven’t already. It’s easy and free. (And addictive—we warned you!)
- Follow Home Outside on Pinterest at www.pinterest.com/homeoutside.
- Create a Pinterest board titled “Creating Home Outside.” Make sure the board is categorized under “Gardening.”
- Boards must include the Home Outside logo, the Home Outside Palette app logo, and the cover of “Home Outside” by Julie Moir Messervy. Visit www.pinterest.com/homeoutside and pin these items from the ‘Creating Home Outside’ board.
- Create your virtual Home Outside. Find 12-20 images on Pinterest and on the web that you would like to see in your dream garden. Pin them to your Creating Home Outside board with the hashtag #homeoutside in the description.
- When your board is complete, post the link as a comment on this blog post. Entries must be received by 11:59:59 PM EST on August 19, 2012. Winners will be notified on August 24.
Winners will be selected based upon creativity, composition and style. The boards will be judged by Julie Moir Messervy, designer of the acclaimed Toronto Music Garden, as well as countless public and residential landscapes. Julie is also the author of the award-winning Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love, Outside the Not So Big House (with Sarah Susanka), and five other books.
Prizes!
The grand prize is a Home Outside home landscape design makeover! The winner will receive our complete online design process for an area of up to 5,000 square feet. He or she will be able to share photos, video, ideas, goals, aesthetic preferences, and more with the Home Outside design team and will receive a completely personalized design for a home landscape that is truly a “home outside.”
Second prize is our Curb Appeal service: we will send the winner an overlay sketch, based on photos of their home, showing a redesigned entrance with simple but effective ideas for transforming the front of their home.
Third prize is a copy of Julie’s book Home Outside: Creating the Landscape You Love and the Home Outside Palette landscape design app for iPhone and iPad.

Morning sun, a cup of coffee, and the newspaper. Hoping for a spot to relax and enjoy with a great neighbor.
Hi Gwenda,
… sounds like a lovely reason to create a Home Outside. Add the link to your Pinterest page when you are ready! (Reply to this comment if you’d like.)

So many ideas to incorporate. We want the adults and children to enjoy our space.
It felt invigorating designing my “Creating Home Outside” board. I was able to dream and really think through what my dream garden would look and feel like. Although I could only communicate so much on a Pinterest board, this is the best representation of what I envision and could share through images and accompanying descriptions. Here’s the link to my board:

I am wondering how many angels can dance on the heads of my 20 PINS submission to this contest?

Oh well, theology and humor aside, when have you experienced a Chinese Garden or perhaps an Isle of Immortality and Scholar Rocks? How about the Garden of Cosmic Speculation?
Can you guide me to resources that can co-mingle Chinese Garden ideas into Julie’s Inward Garden and Home Outside inspirations, merged and one, at an early 1796 New England farm house at 418 High Street, Pembroke, MA 02359?
You see, attending Julie’s Summer Grown Up Kids’ Camps and her wonderful talks at multiple flower shows, not to mention reading her books, has altered my way of Seeing. But, now I’m wrestling with Chinese dragons and feel almost blind. I feel like David facing Goliath, but I don’t have five smooth stones, nor a slingshot. Somehow, my pilgrimage toward understanding and expressing the Inward Garden has taken me to China – or at least to wonderful Chinese Gardens in New York, Oregon, and Washington DC. Now I need your creative help to experience the influence, merger, and expression of a Chinese Garden in my Home Outside.
Grateful for all that’s past, I encourage you to be confident, and most welcome, and to unfold your promptings.
Bert

This was fun! And a good exercise in looking at what I like and what is possible in a 50′ x 100′ city lot.

I wasn’t born with a green thumb, so any green or flowering additions to my yard would be a great improvement! Here are some of my favorite ideas!

I enjoyed this challenge as it helped me to dream about some elements for my garden that are based on recollections of my favorite childhood book, “Caroline and her Friends”.
