JMMDS announces the newest addition to its book catalog: The Toronto Music Garden: Inspired by Bach, released in celebration of the garden’s tenth anniversary. Here’s a look at the book’s recent launch in Toronto.
The Toronto Music Garden: Inspired by Bach tells the story of the beloved Toronto Music Garden, a three-acre public park along the city’s waterfront that Julie designed in collaboration with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The new book received a warm welcome in Toronto, where it was fêted with a book launch hosted by the Harbourfront Centre. Held just a short walk from the Music Garden itself, the launch brought together many of the people responsible for the creation and success of both the Music Garden and the new book, including major donors, city officials and staff, performance artists, photographers, and designers, and members of the media. Julie was pleased to attend with Janet Friskey, the graphic designer for the Music Garden book.

The evening included a number of speeches, as well as a performance by cellist Winona Zelenka, who treated guests to an excerpt from Bach’s First Cello Suite, the inspiration for the Music Garden’s design. Speeches were given by Tamara Bernstein, Artistic Director of the Summer Music in the Garden series, Major Donor and host of the evening Jim Fleck, Harbourfront Centre CEO William J.S. Boyle, and Julie Messervy, among others.

After many expressions of gratitude and enthusiasm, the evening came to a close. Now, as winter comes to blanket the Music Garden, the new book serves as a reminder of the garden’s history, its lush plantings, and the important role it plays in Toronto city life. The Toronto Music Garden: Inspired by Bach is a great holiday stocking stuffer for the garden and design enthusiasts on your list–signed copies are available from JMMDS.
